Dozens of manufacturers were on display when the 2018 New York International Auto Show kicked off at the end of last month, but it wasn’t a luxury nameplate that stole the show. It was the all-new 2019 Subaru Forester that upstaged the field.
Subaru has long been renowned for its outdoorsy, environmentally-conscious vehicles, but the redesigned Forester looks to bring the Japanese automaker to the forefront of tech-savvy car brands. Continue reading to see why the 2019 Forester is the most forward-thinking Subaru yet.
The 2019 Subaru Forester: Features for the Road Ahead
Safety and Technology
Award-winning EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology will come standard across all five of the Forester’s trims. That means features like Automatic Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Departure with Sway Warning are included even at the base level.
But Subaru isn’t stopping there. The segment-exclusive DriverFocus safety system will be available on the Forester’s Touring trim. A cutting-edge driver monitoring system, DriverFocus uses facial recognition software to alert its driver of possible distraction or fatigue.
The new Forester will also offer the following safety options:
- Reverse Automatic Braking
- Blind Spot Detection w/ Lane Change Assist
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
Performance
The Forester has built its reputation on being fun for driving no matter where the road takes it, and its newest generation is no different. This crossover will achieve 182 horsepower and an estimated 33 mpg in highway fuel economy, thanks to an updated version of the 2.5L SUBARU BOXER® engine.* The Forester will also come equipped with the following standard features, regardless of trim level:
- Updated Subaru Symmetrical All-wheel Drive
- Lineartronic CVT
- Driver-selectable SI-DRIVE
Design
Subaru shoppers will admire the new Forester’s bigger, bolder, and more athletic presence. Engineered under the Subaru Global Platform, the 2019 model operates with one goal in mind: to improve quietness, stability, and agility for both driver and passengers.
This crossover has a wider wheelbase and more noise-resistant materials than its predecessors. But the following perks aren’t too shabby, either:
- Increased leg, hip, and headroom
- Up to 76.1 cu. ft. of cargo space
- Available panoramic moonroof
- Available roof rails
New Sport Trim
The base, Premium, Limited, and Touring trims offer value that’s miles ahead of the competition, but the new Sport trim is truly out of sight. Everything about this iteration exudes ruggedness — from the black-gloss Sport grille to the rear roof spoiler and roof rail mounts.
The following features put the Forester Sport even further out of reach of its rivals:
- SI-DRIVE w/ Intelligent and Sport Sharp modes
- LED fog lights
- Exterior mirrors w/ integrated turn signals
- Available all-weather package
