Subaru has equipped every trim of the 2019 Subaru Outback and 2019 Subaru Legacy with EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, a suite of state-of-the-art safety features.

EyeSight is designed to give you a sense of greater security as you cruise, covering known and unknown blind spots. It uses a set of dual color cameras mounted above the rear-view mirror of your Outback or Legacy to monitor the road and alert you of potential dangers using four integrated systems.

We’ve included details on the systems included in Subaru EyeSight below. Keep reading to learn more.

Subaru EyeSight® in Action

Adaptive Cruise Control

Conventional cruise control systems let you lock in your speed so you don’t have to keep your foot on the gas pedal. If the car in front of you slows down, you have to hit the brakes and cancel your cruise settings, then reset them to your new speed.

Adaptive Cruise Control is more intelligent. Instead of setting your speed, you set your follow distance. So if you’re on the highway in your new Outback, you can set it to follow three car-lengths behind the car in front of you. If the car in front speeds up, your Outback will, too. If it slows down, your car automatically slows down. This saves you the hassle of having to reset your cruise settings every time the flow of traffic changes.

Lane Keep Assist and Sway Warning

EyeSight monitors the lanes you leave and enter with Lane Keep Assist and Sway Warning. When you drift outside of your lane without activating a turn signal, the system warns you with visual and audio alerts. Lane Keep Assist also helps by gently steering you back into your lane.

Pre-Collision Braking

If you approach a vehicle from behind too quickly, the Pre-Collision Braking system will alert you of a potential impact. If you do not apply the brakes hard enough or quickly enough, Pre-Collision Braking will automatically apply full braking pressure to prevent a frontal collision from occurring.

Pre-Collision Throttle Management

When you are likely to hit an object in front of you, Pre-Collision Throttle Management restricts engine output to reduce the force of the potential impact. This system not only helps to minimize damage on the front of the vehicle, but helps keep you and your passengers safe inside the cabin.
