You know about Subaru’s current wagons and compact SUVs, but did you know that the Japanese nameplate has even bigger plans ahead? And we do mean bigger. The much-anticipated 2019 Subaru Ascent, the automaker’s largest SUV to date, is set to take off into showrooms early this summer.
You may remember the Ascent’s debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show® last November, but just in case you need a refresher, we’ve got you covered. Here’s what you can expect from Subaru’s hottest new model before it climbs to the top of full-size SUV lists later this year.
The Subaru Ascent: Specs That Leave Other SUVs Looking Up
Design
The 2019 Ascent delivers Subaru styling, but in a larger package. A classic crouched, athletic stance and standard integrated roof rails contribute to a ruggedly handsome profile. And like the Forester and Outback, the Ascent has an inner softness that drivers and passengers alike can’t get enough of. A panoramic moonroof and heated seating are available for all to enjoy.
But there is a huge difference between Subaru’s newest model and its crossover mainstays: the Ascent features three rows.
Available in both seven and eight-seat configurations, this full-size SUV offers a whopping 153.5 cu. ft. of total passenger space — making it ideal for those with families and active lifestyles.
Performance
Don’t be misled: the Ascent is large, but it’s anything but cumbersome. This all-new SUV has a few surprises up its sleeve, like agile, responsive handling. But it also comes equipped with the elements you expect. Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a 260-horsepower SUBARU BOXER® engine are just a few that come to mind.
And while Ascent is in the name, Subaru’s newest SUV has no problems getting down to the nitty-gritty. With an 8.7” of ground clearance and X-MODE® with hill descent control, the Ascent traverses every inch of the earth with sure-footedness.
Safety
The Ascent couldn’t possibly be anymore forward-thinking, right? Think again. Subaru’s revolutionary EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology comes standard on every model. That means that active systems like Pre-Collision Braking and Blind-Spot Detection are the new norm with the Ascent.
But that’s not the only way Subaru is pushing the envelope. With an available Smart Rearview Mirror and a front camera that combine for up to 360 degrees of visibility, the Ascent looks around at its competitors and says, “Your move.”
